This internship offers students hands‑on experience supporting applied research, laboratory testing, and early‑stage development of advanced engineering solutions used in semiconductor, aerospace, energy and healthcare. Interns work closely with engineers and scientists in Mott’s development teams, contributing to real technical programs that progress from concept through experimental validation. Requirements

Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Interest in applied engineering, experimental testing, and hands‑on problem solving
Ability to work effectively in a team‑based, laboratory environment
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn disciplined experimental methods

Nice To Haves

Hands‑on lab and cleanroom experience in a professional R&D setting
Applied engineering development for next‑generation porous metal technology
Exposure to how similar technologies are developed and applied across adjacent industries, including clean energy, aerospace, healthcare, and specialty chemical processing
Experience working within structured engineering, quality, and safety processes

Responsibilities

Support laboratory and cleanroom testing activities, including experimental setup, data collection, and documentation
Assist with evaluation and iteration of early‑stage prototypes and test articles
Work with engineered porous metal and ceramic materials used in mission‑critical applications
Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to support customer‑driven technical programs
Document results and contribute to technical summaries and internal reports
