About The Position

Gerdau is seeking university students to participate in our G. Start program. G. Start is a paid internship program with the goal of developing students for future technical and managerial positions. G. Start internships are project-focused and mutually beneficial. G. Start is a program that values the diversity and inclusion of our business and society. This position will be a full-time, 12-month long internship opportunity. This job opportunity is fully onsite. There are no opportunities for remote work. Candidates MUST be in commutable distance from the facility located at 160 Orion Place in Cambridge, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate entering third or fourth year.
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering or related from a recognized accredited university.
  • Candidates MUST be returning to full-time studies following this internship.
  • Record of high academic achievement.
  • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities.
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship.
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership potential, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, and problem-solving skill.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mill performance studies by collecting and analyzing data from production processes, equipment systems, and other relevant sources to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and reliability.
  • Support the development and implementation of improvement projects aimed at delivering measurable impact on mill performance.
  • Utilize CAD modeling software to assist with the design and development of equipment changes, layouts, and process improvements.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to support project execution and continuous improvement activities.
