About The Position

The Engineering Level 2 Internship is part of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Planning and Engineering Internship Program. Interns may be placed in the Streets Division or Transit Division. Assignments vary by team and may involve transportation project design, fieldwork, traffic engineering, transit systems, fleet electrification, rail systems, project management, data analytics, and public outreach. The program includes mandatory seminars and field trips, and interns will give PechaKucha presentations at the end of the summer. The internship follows a 40-hour workweek, generally Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM. The position operates in a hybrid and traditional environment, with onsite work up to five days per week as determined by the work and supervisor. Interns must be based in the Bay Area for the duration of the internship. Work outside regular hours may be required for fieldwork or outreach events. A flexible schedule may be available with supervisor and division approval. Interns may work up to 1,040 hours in a fiscal year. Most positions end at the end of summer, although some may continue into the school year with approval. This is a temporary exempt, full-time appointment at $40.7750 per hour. It is excluded from the competitive Civil Service examination process and serves at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
