About The Position

This opportunity resides with Uncrewed Systems (UxS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Uncrewed Systems comprises unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomy software. As HII Uncrewed Systems continues to push the boundaries of supplying the world’s most robust and reliable underwater vehicle platforms, one of our primary focuses is the comprehensive level of testing, troubleshooting and support for our products as part of our production process as well as products that are in-shop for repair, upgrade, warranty work or other services. The Field Services intern will apply basic knowledge of engineering principles to aid in ensuring vehicles and associated hardware are fit for use prior to being delivered to the customer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with between 20% and 40% of the required credits completed.
  • Interest in being hands-on with electrical and mechanical systems
  • Is coachable and able to take direction as well as receive feedback
  • Ability to read and follow specific instructions in order given
  • Ability to communicate observations and results both verbally and written
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to work on-site in Pocasset, MA
  • Experience being on boats, ships and other surface vessels

Responsibilities

  • Support the Engineering team with engineering functions in one or more of the following specialties: electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil, naval, and/or chemical.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues and provide technical support.
  • Participate in the testing and verification of performance for multiple REMUS vehicle variants as well as a variety of pieces of vehicle support equipment.
  • Prepare hardware, transport hardware to one of the local port locations, assist with sea-test activities in a deck-hand support role, return the hardware back to the Pocasset facility and aid in debriefing the appropriate stakeholders in the results of sea-test activities.
  • Perform other related duties as directed with supervision.
