The Role: General Motors LLC is seeking skilled Engineering Group Technicians to support our product development and testing initiatives. This role involves hands-on work with vehicles and components, ensuring quality and performance through fabrication, instrumentation, and testing activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years Automotive experience
  • Proven experience in fabrication techniques (e.g., welding, machining).
  • Strong understanding and experience with instrumentation systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience working with automotive components.
  • Familiarity with product electronics, including wiring diagrams and diagnostic tools.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record for test driving responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects and work in various physical conditions.
  • Ability to travel to support off site vehicle development events.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical field preferred
  • ASE or State Certified Mechanic
  • CMM measurement experience
  • Understanding of HVAC, Chassis, Brake, Powertrain systems
  • Understanding of product electronic and sub system controllers
  • Experience working with BEV is a plus
  • MIG and TIG welding experience
  • Automotive Electrical trouble shooting background
  • Maximo experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows
  • Vehicle software as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform fabrication tasks, including welding, machining, and assembly, to create prototypes and test fixtures.
  • Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot various instrumentation systems for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Conduct mechanical inspections, adjustments, and repairs on vehicles and components.
  • Work with product electronics, including wiring, soldering, and software flashing, to support testing and development.
  • Execute test driving protocols, collecting and documenting data on vehicle performance and behavior.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to all company safety standards.
  • Document test procedures, results, and observations accurately and comprehensively.
