About The Position

The Energy Conversion Systems (ECS) team at General Motors is focused on developing and executing propulsion technology. This role is within the Energy Conversion Management Hardware organization, responsible for creating industry-leading propulsion management hardware (exhaust emission, engine boosting, power electronics, and vehicle charging) for current and future GM Vehicles. The position is for a first-level people leader (Engineering Group Manager) who will lead a team responsible for hardware design and release within ECS. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, forward-thinking, innovative, high-performing people leader with a balance of strategic and tactical skills, contributing to GM’s Zero, Zero, Zero vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in all phases of product development from initiation to launch
  • Knowledge of engineering processes, tools, and vehicle / propulsion development processes
  • Working knowledge of Electric Vehicle propulsion
  • Experience leading projects and people (directly or indirectly), with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organization and planning capability, with the ability to quickly identify and remove roadblocks and escalate as appropriate
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, with proven capability to balance technical and business needs
  • Strong collaboration skills and enterprise business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and support timely decision making
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with a high level of composure and proven results
  • DFSS black belt
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with traction inverters, PCB and/or high voltage semiconductors
  • Prior experience with drive unit design & execution
  • Masters in Engineering Management or Business Administration
  • DRE experience
  • Software, Calibration and/or Diagnostic experience
  • Quality/Warranty improvement experience
  • Experience improving Engineering processes for faster production execution and First Time Quality (FTQ) of new designs
  • Prior people leader experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to ensure excellence in all aspects of GM and supplier engineering
