About The Position

The Next Generation Battery Cell Execution Team at General Motors is a fast-paced team focused on developing and deploying GM’s next-generation cell technologies. This team supports the transition of groundbreaking battery cell innovations from prototype into the right production environment for current and future GM applications. This role offers the opportunity to help shape the future of electrification while advancing GM’s Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion vision. The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on people leader who can drive technical excellence, navigate complexity, and deliver results through others. This Engineering Group Manager will lead a team of 10 to 15 engineers responsible for battery cell hardware design and release within the Advanced Battery Pack and Cell Engineering Group. As leader of the Battery Cell team in the Batteries & Sustainability Division, this person will translate business and functional priorities into clear goals, aligned execution plans, and strong team performance. The role requires leadership across a complex network of internal and external stakeholders, adaptability as technical and business needs evolve, and a commitment to building a high-performing organization that can deliver today while preparing for what comes next.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 7+ years of engineering experience across multiple phases of product development from initiation through launch, including 5+ years of relevant battery cell experience with build and execution
  • Experience with automotive prismatic cells and strong working knowledge of automotive battery cells, battery systems, and vehicle or propulsion development processes
  • Demonstrated success leading complex technical work through direct and/or indirect leadership, with the ability to align teams with diverse skill sets around common engineering and business objectives
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into execution, manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and quickly identify, remove, or escalate roadblocks
  • Strong planning, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements, business priorities, and ambiguity to support timely decisions and consistent results

Nice To Haves

  • Prior people leadership and/or program management experience
  • Experience as a DRE, supporting a product launch, or working in the battery cell or broader electrification domain
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Management, or another relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of Quality Chain Management and/or DFSS Black Belt certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead the battery cell team in support of GM’s advanced battery cell technology roadmap, driving hardware design and release activities from planning through execution.
  • Translate engineering, functional, and business priorities into clear objectives, actionable plans, and high-quality deliverables, while adjusting resources and direction as program needs evolve.
  • Drive cross-functional execution across engineering, program, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier teams, influencing key decisions, resolving conflicts, and escalating risks, tradeoffs, and constraints as needed.
  • Ensure engineering excellence by delivering against functional, performance, safety, quality, reliability, durability, and serviceability targets.
  • Build team capability through workforce planning, talent acquisition, coaching and development, alignment of individual contributions to organizational goals, and an inclusive, high-performance culture.
