About The Position

Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers. Candidate will be responsible for shipboard testing from light off through delivery of all critical Controls Systems on LHA platform. Candidate will make sure all testing requirements are met to meet each shipboard test milestone, which includes tracking that shipboard test steps are sold and modifying any shipboard test procedures as necessary. Candidate will perform the following: Research, development, and design of electrical components, equipment, and systems, in accordance with all contractual requirements, military and commercial specifications; write and track software trouble reports; review and approve supplier proposals; review, comment on, adjudicate and approve supplier furnished information for translation into construction products; interface with vendors and Navy technical representatives; support vendor design reviews and testing; develop drawings and other documents IAW Mil-Specs and contract drawings; interface with other disciplines and departments to ensure a seamless integration of assigned systems into the shipboard environment.

Requirements

  • 14 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field
  • 12 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree
  • 9 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD (Combination of education and experience may be used in lieu of degree)

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical Controls background is preferred with experience in PLC design, Network Architecture, Variable Speed Drives, Controls Relays.
  • Competent in software (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Shipconstructor, ARAS, Bluebeam, and NavisWorks).
