About The Position

The Engineering Department Supervisor serves as an Engineering Supervisor under the direction of the Engineering Department Manager and directly supervises assigned Department staff. This role involves providing direction to individuals and project teams, managing communication of goals and project progress, and overseeing product and project planning. The supervisor will lead, coordinate, and control the delivery of products, processes, tools, and features in line with the JT4 Enterprise Engineering Processes (JEEP). Collaboration with all departments and engineering teams is crucial for managing trade-offs between scope, resources, and time. The position requires utilizing reporting tools to analyze project status, understanding customer needs, and ensuring customer requirements are met. This includes working with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with Air Force customers to obtain requirements, develop system requirements documents, and prepare evaluation tests and summary reports. Research and analysis of data such as customer and vendor proposals are necessary to determine project feasibility. The supervisor will also manage employee performance, set work schedules, and make personnel decisions regarding hiring, salary, discipline, and termination. Additionally, contributing to budget development and cost control is a key responsibility. Other duties include assisting in writing technical proposals and documentation, and representing the Engineering Manager in customer meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hardware, Software or Systems Engineering.
  • In lieu of an Engineering Degree, a Master's Degree in Business Administration/Management or Organizational Management.
  • Ten years of experience leading project teams and managing a project portfolio.
  • Ability to develop new approaches, establish innovative techniques, and identify measurement and evaluation criteria to determine program effectiveness, develop new or modified work methods, and analyze and resolve highly complex problems.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts, in a clear and decisive manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current engineering practices and standards.
  • Ability to manage engineering projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Write and prepare a variety of plans, reports, proposals, procedures, and other types of written communications.
  • Ability to lead and manage large and small projects with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Ability to provide technical direction and manage other engineers, technicians and team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to analyze data, resolve problems and make decisions independently.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Routinely use project planning and office software in the performance of your job activities.
  • Ability to travel as required by the Company.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance in accordance with the contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to individuals and project teams within the department.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand range user, customer, and contract support requirements.
  • Collaborate with Air Force customers to obtain requirements, develop system requirements documents, acquisition and vendor statement of work documents, evaluation tests and summary reports.
  • Research and analyze data such as customer and vendor proposals, specifications and manuals to determine the feasibility and execution of projects and sub-contracts.
  • Supervise the performance of work performed by employees assigned to the department.
  • Evaluate and document employee performance.
  • Set employee work schedules and account for time worked by department employees.
  • Interview candidates and make personnel decisions or recommendations related to hiring, salary, discipline, and termination.
  • Contribute to the development of operations/expense budgets for the department and control costs and resources accordingly.
  • Authors or assists in writing technical proposals, requirements definitions, test plans and other technical documentation.
  • Serves as the Engineering Manager's representative in customer meetings and delegated responsibilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
