Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled student majoring in Chemical Engineering, Paper Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related major and have completed the freshman year.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 is required.
  • You must be eligible to work in the US on a full time basis.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Candidate must display maturity and a high level of professionalism.
  • The intern/co-op student must take ownership of their work and work area.
  • The ability to work with other mill personnel, operators, and supervisors is a requirement.
  • A positive work attitude is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering Intern or Co-Op students will be assigned to a Process Engineering, Project Engineering, or Reliability focus area depending on their major and interest.
  • Must have completed at least one semester at PCA.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and evaluate trials on the paper machines, pulp mill, secondary fiber, or other parts of the mill.
  • Conduct routine pulp and paper tests required for trial evaluation or machine troubleshooting.
  • Monitor key process sensing equipment for accuracy and reliability, implementing repairs if problems are detected.
  • Conduct routine pulp quality tests weekly, including efficiencies, consistencies, critical solids verifications, and other necessary tests.
  • Periodically monitor key consistency loops on stock chests and interface with the E/I Department to improve malfunctioning loops.
  • Order and maintain routine laboratory supplies and chemical solutions.
  • Assist in the start-up of paper machines after monthly shutdowns.
  • Conduct critical paper machine maintenance inspections.
  • Update lab MSDS for materials and chemicals used in the lab.
  • Project management tasks.
  • Maintenance and reliability tasks.
  • Other duties as needs and interest arise.
