About The Position

Under the direction of the Tr. Engineer Manager, this position schedules, assigns, directs, and supervises field and office survey activities involved in planning, designing, and constructing transportation and related facilities. This position is will be responsible for scope, planning and scheduling the individual projects to ensure each project meets the established scope of work and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying as applied to design, development, and construction of the state highway system.
  • Federal and State statutes, agency standards, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to area of assignment.
  • Safety and public relations practices.
  • Techniques utilized in management of assigned resources.
  • Computer applications as they pertain to survey and CADD.
  • Photogrammetric mapping procedures and related application.
  • ADOT MicroStation Open Roads Designer-CADD system.
  • Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Chat, Calendar, Slides).
  • Supervision and leadership.
  • Interpreting and analyzing a wide range of data.
  • Oral and written communications.
  • Writing engineering and technical reports.
  • Interpersonal relations with subordinate personnel, other government agencies, contractors, consultants and the public.
  • Organize and prioritize; research, read and interpret technical engineering documents such as survey data, highway plans and computer printouts; interpret technical data from maps, plans, and aerial photographs, write field notes; apply the principles and practices of work leadership and management; analyze and evaluate a wide variety of engineering and/or survey data.
  • Safely drive a full-size pickup on and off road.
  • Work outdoors for extended time, exposed to heat, cold, dust and noise.
  • Candidates will be required to meet registration requirements set forth by the Arizona Technical Board of Registration and attain an Arizona PE from the Board within 6 months of employment start date or be a registered Land Surveyor at time of hire.
  • Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and two years experience supervising a survey work unit or survey crew.
  • Preferred a registered Land Surveyor (RLS).
  • Two years as a Transportation Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews projects including details specific to the area of assignment such as the placement of structures, right-of-way, earthwork quantities, signing and traffic engineering features, reviews project plans and specifications and verified accuracy and assures compliance; participates in project meetings and field reviews: makes recommendations to insure plans are in compliance.
  • Review project documentation, quantities and correspondence; coordinates with other project teams and agency personnel, provides technical instruction and assistance to project personnel; monitors project progress.
  • Use of written or oral communications to communicate with surveyors, designers, engineers, consultants, contractors and or field office regarding survey plans, specifications and special provisions and any discrepancies of cost related proposals and potential savings.
