About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide inspections of private development projects for the City to ensure compliance with specifications, regulations, and City codes. This is a Non-Exempt position with a hiring salary range of $49,836.80 - $54,820.48, depending on qualifications. The full salary range is $49,836.80 - $77,272.00.

Requirements

  • High school diploma supplemented with college courses in related engineering topics
  • One to three years of related experience
  • Knowledge of mathematics and routine engineering calculations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others
  • Ability to work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public
  • Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Ability to meet the mental and physical demands of the position
  • Skilled in performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks of average difficulty
  • Valid N.C. Driver's License and an acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field is preferred
  • Level 1 Erosion and Sediment Control Certification or similar certification

Responsibilities

  • Ensures construction sites remain within limitations of approved plans by conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with City standards and plan specifications
  • Consulting with contractors, developers, owners, and other city departments
  • Conducting field surveys of City and private development construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and other regulatory requirements
  • Assists in the review of building permit and driveway permit applications for compliance with applicable codes
  • Work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Meet the mental and physical demands of the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned
