Land Development Civil Engineering Specialist
About The Position
STV is currently seeking a Land Development Civil Engineering Specialist for its Buildings group in Owings Mills, MD. The candidate will collaborate on a wide variety of projects including conceptual master plans, schools, mixed-use, office buildings, industrial buildings, housing/apartment projects, commercial buildings, and civil/site structures. The position will allow the individual to collaborate with our civil design team preparing documents associated with a wide variety of land development projects within the Baltimore Metropolitan area. This role is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level or early-career engineer to work on high-profile projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, gain hands-on experience, and build toward professional licensure with mentorship and support from senior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (required).
- 3 years of experience in civil/site design, land development, or a related field.
- Familiarity with site development principles, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and erosion/sediment control.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or MicroStation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to progress multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for client and team collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the FE exam is preferred but not required.
- ArcGIS and Hydraflow Hydrographs preferred but not required.
- Exposure to permitting processes in Maryland jurisdictions (Baltimore City experience a plus).
Responsibilities
- Prepare construction documents, permit packages, and support construction services.
- Utilize design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation; HydroCAD; Hydraflow Hydrographs and ArcGIS) to create construction drawings, layouts, and models for land development projects
- Conduct site investigations and assessments to support design decisions.
- Develop sustainable and innovative solutions for site layouts, stormwater management, grading, utilities, and erosion/sediment control.
- Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and feasibility studies.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to secure permits and approvals.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineers to integrate site design with overall project goals.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to discuss project requirements and progress.
- Support project managers by monitoring budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Stay current with industry trends, technology, and best practices to enhance project quality.
