About The Position

The Engineering and Maintenance Manager plays a critical leadership role in driving operational excellence and ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all plant equipment and systems. This position is accountable for maximizing production output and quality through proactive maintenance strategies, timely repairs, and innovative equipment upgrades. Beyond maintenance, the Engineering & Maintenance Manager leads the engineering function that supports core manufacturing processes and delivers high-impact projects aligned with the organization’s strategic goals while also overseeing facilities management, ensuring that all equipment, infrastructure, and processes operate at peak performance and meet all regulatory and corporate compliance standards. This role is pivotal in shaping a resilient, future-ready manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chem., Indus., Mech., Elec.) or related field is required.
  • 7+ years of related experience with a minimum of 3 years in a management capacity is required.
  • Requires mechanical and electrical expertise and experience in troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, essential in working with people at all levels and in a variety of functions.
  • Able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards.
  • The employee's role frequently involves sitting and utilizing hands and fingers for tasks such as handling, feeling, and keyboard manipulation, necessitating manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally, the position requires standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, alongside close vision capabilities and potential exposure to chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering designation preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical and/or GMP facility is an asset.
  • Six Sigma, Lean or TPS experience /certification desired.
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Engineering/Maintenance activities across departments to ensure operational alignment, following safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support equipment upgrades and installations in collaboration with design and operations teams.
  • Provide project updates, schedule key deliverables and ensure milestone achievements.
  • Ensures documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Monitor plant equipment and systems to reduce downtime and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate directly with the Operations department to plan maintenance outages and repair work in process areas.
  • Able to work extended hours, weekends as needed, to resolve issues or to meet deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
