About The Position

BlueLinx is seeking an Engineered Wood Products - Lead Engineer to join their team. This role involves understanding the company's vision, mission, and strategy, and setting individual performance goals accordingly. The Lead Engineer will provide sealed calculations, repairs, telephone support, and single member sizing. They will also offer guidance to Plan Services on construction practices and solutions for design issues, and assist with technical aspects of claims against Technical Services and Engineered Wood Products. Ensuring compliance with building codes and standards is crucial, as is overseeing the development of technical bulletins, construction details, specification and installation literature, and training protocols. The role also includes monitoring product capacities, reviewing Quality Control testing and procedures, and acting as a liaison with software providers and industry associations. Facilitating training sessions for internal and external stakeholders is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Structural or Civil), ability to become licensed in multiple states
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering
  • 5-7+ years’ experience preferred with BS/BA; 3-5 years’ experience with MS/MA/MBA
  • Expertise in designing structures with wood, especially with wood I-joists, structural composite lumber, rim board, and glulam beams and columns.
  • Strong understanding of building code requirements as well as the National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Skilled at blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite Software, especially Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • MS/MA/MBA a plus.
  • Skills using isDesign and isPlan a plus.
  • Experience training on construction/framing and engineered wood capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Provides sealed calculations, repairs, telephone support, and single member sizing.
  • Provides guidance to Plan Services regarding construction practices and solutions for design issues.
  • Assists with technical aspects of claims against Technical Services and Engineered Wood Products.
  • Ensures compliance with building codes and standards.
  • Oversee development of technical bulletins, construction details, specification and installation literature, and training protocols.
  • Monitors capacities of products sold by BLX.
  • Reviews Quality Control testing and procedures.
  • Acts as liaison with software provider and oversees maintenance of design software along with various industry associations and societies.
  • Facilitates training sessions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
