About The Position

The Frick Collection is seeking an Engineer to perform scheduled building checks of mechanical spaces and fan rooms. This role involves recording and adjusting building temperatures, humidity, vault systems, and utility usage via the BMS system. The Engineer will also check and adjust the chiller system, monitor compressed air and steam pressure, change filters and belts, clean coils and cooling tower equipment, lubricate pumps and motors, pack valves, overhaul steam traps, repair leaks, and perform general building maintenance. Responsibilities include unclogging drains, repairing fixtures, maintaining locks and furniture, assisting with moving equipment and artwork, maintaining work areas, and operating exterior shutters. The position is full-time, nonexempt, with a regular workweek of 37.5 hours, paid at $44.00/hour, with time-and-a-half for hours exceeding 37.5 per week. A 10% night differential is applicable for evening/overnight shifts.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge/skills in mechanical systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge/skills in electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Working knowledge/skills with HVAC systems, low-pressure steam, pumps, compressors and control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of safety standards/regulations.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and nameplates.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • NYC Unlimited Tonnage Refrigeration Machine Operators License (Q-01) required.
  • EPA-CFC Universal certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled building checks of mechanical spaces and fan rooms.
  • Record readings of building temperatures, humidity, vault systems, and utility usage twice per shift.
  • Make necessary adjustments and calibrations on the BMS system.
  • Check chiller system and record readings every other hour, making adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor compressed air systems and steam pressure throughout the shift.
  • Change filters and belts for fan systems.
  • Clean coils, strainers, and cooling tower equipment.
  • Lubricate pumps, motors, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Pack valves, overhaul steam traps, and repair leaks.
  • Clean roof drains and unclog toilets/sinks.
  • Repair bathroom fixtures.
  • Perform general building maintenance including locks, door checks, kitchen equipment, and furniture assembly.
  • Assist in moving office equipment and artwork.
  • Maintain upkeep of work areas including trash removal and painting of mechanical spaces and equipment.
  • Open and close exterior shutters as needed.
