About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is hiring an experienced Bridge Maintenance Engineer to support transportation infrastructure projects and programs through bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support. The role applies engineering principles, conducts technical analysis, coordinates projects, and performs compliance-related reviews to support the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure. Training is provided, and the position offers career progression through the Engineering job series. Positions are located in Rapides Parish and report to the District Bridge Engineer.

This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled at the Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5 level. The position may be filled through a probational appointment, promotion, a temporary Job Appointment in a classified position for up to four years, or detail to special duty. Multiple vacancies may be filled. The role requires a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering. Applicants licensed in another state may apply but must obtain a Louisiana license before appointment if selected. The hiring agency will verify licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Review or prepare plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
• Perform or assist with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
• Provide technical support for bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
• Coordinate with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
• Review bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Support the development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
• Assist with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
