About The Position

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is a government agency dedicated to protecting water resources, minimizing flood risks, and ensuring the public's water needs are met for nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida. Within the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) Bureau, this role supports the ERP Compliance Section by conducting professional-level technical and administrative engineering work. The successful candidate will focus on post-permitting compliance, with close coordination with the ERP Evaluation Section. This position applies engineering principles, project management, scientific findings, and environmental laws to evaluate, plan, design, and complete water-related projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies. The District offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring a portion of time on-site and a portion remotely, with the expectation that employees live in Florida. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Two (2) years related work experience (for Engineer 2)
  • Four (4) years related work experience (for Engineer 3)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid Florida Professional Engineer license (for Engineer 3)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure activities are brought into compliance with the state and District rules, including permit transfers, violations, expired permits, and unauthorized construction.
  • Work closely with Regulatory Support staff to accomplish tasks as outlined in rules, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Travel to site meetings in designated District counties.
  • Participate in ERP Bureau projects under the direction of the ERP Compliance Manager.
  • Participate in departmental activities and perform other duties as necessary.
  • Perform duties as assigned before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, which may include normal work functions or other emergency support functions.
