About The Position

The Engineer I/II/III/Sr. is responsible for Natural Gas Distribution and Transmission system planning, hydraulic system modeling, updating and maintaining data utilized by the Distribution Integrity Management Plan (DIMP/TIMP), implementing and tracking recommended DIMP actions, assisting with development of capital budget, maintaining and updating standards and procedures for Gas Operations, and providing technical expertise to field employees. The Engineer I/II/III/Sr. also has responsibility for capital budget goals, long range planning and prioritization, risk and root cause analysis, and Project Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering is required.
  • Engineer I - 0 to 2 years experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II - 2+ years' experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer III - 4+ years' experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer Sr. - 6+ years' experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal, budgeting, work planning, employee counseling/coaching/mentoring skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in an effective and concise manner that is relevant and beneficial to recipients of varying technical understanding
  • Must possess strong communication skills, including effectively interfacing with all levels of management and employees
  • Have strong engineering analysis and problem solving skills
  • Proficient PC Skills including MS Suite (strong emphasis in Excel and Access), AutoCAD (or drafting software).
  • Familiarity with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and understand Coordinate Systems and geography
  • Self-starter, able to perform at a high level without detailed supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities, maintain focus and work well under pressure
  • Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplabs daily.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
  • Able to exert in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle for multiple hour trips.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable and experience with Natural Gas distribution and transmission operations, procedures and processes
  • Knowledge and application of engineering principles, gas laws, gas distribution construction practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Distribution Information Systems (Work Management), Geographic Information Systems, Document Management Systems and Hydraulic Analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and drafting standards
  • Sound and practical judgment must be exhibited as decisions and recommendations made by System Planning have significant service reliability and financial implications.
  • The complex nature of the assigned tasks and the volume of data to be analyzed requires careful and thorough examination of all combinations of potential simultaneous events.
  • EI or PE license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide Safety leadership/coaching to all employees to ensure a safety culture.
  • Create and deliver reports and presentations to communicate ideas, technical information, process improvement and project business cases.
  • Responsible for ensuring Gas Compliance and providing technical expertise on industry interpretations PHMSA 191, 192 and 199 Pipeline Safety Regulations
  • Responsible for developing and updating Gas Integrity Risk Model and Integrity Management Plans (DIMP/TIMP – leak analysis studies, threat identification, mitigation processes)
  • Perform mathematical calculations including hydraulic analysis, gas volume and pressure drop, gas lost, and weight/constituents of natural gas
  • Prepare design specifications for Natural Gas equipment, systems, and software
  • Perform Risk analysis and Root cause analysis
  • Work extended hours in emergencies, outage restoration activities and be available for after-hours Duty call-out rotation.
  • Normally work in office surroundings but occasional field work under varying weather conditions and moderate physical exertion is required
  • Utilize Project Management tools to complete multiple projects simultaneously
