About The Position

Join Golden Valley Electric Association as an Engineer in the beautiful city of Fairbanks, where you'll help design, plan, and maintain the electrical infrastructure that powers Interior Alaska. This is an exciting opportunity to launch or grow your engineering career while working on projects that directly support the reliability and future of our electric system. GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and all electric utilities throughout the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social vitality of the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with an emphasis in Power Engineering.
  • Successful completion of the Alaska Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam or the ability to obtain it within two years of hire.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, mathematics, physics, and electrical system design.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis software, AutoCAD, and Autodesk products.
  • Ability to prepare designs, estimates, budgets, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using engineering software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of GVEA's electrical system while working alongside experienced engineers and field crews.
  • Contribute to a variety of transmission, distribution, and generation projects, helping ensure our system remains safe, reliable, and efficient.
  • Assist with project planning and design, engineering studies, system analysis, construction support, and technical problem-solving.
  • Work with contractors, internal departments, and GVEA members to develop practical solutions that support our communities and the cooperative's long-term success.
