About The Position

Provides engineering support to Area Substation Supervisors and Field personnel. Performs a wide variety of protection and control mis-operation investigations, assisting field personnel with testing protection and control devices, calibrating relay test sets, design engineering, and operations activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include identifying mis-operation mitigation plans, planning corrective actions, reliability, computer applications, and root cause failure analysis. Prior experience in Transmission Protection Systems, NERC PRC-005 regulations, or RTU/SCADA systems is preferred.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution.
• Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
• Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline
• Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline
• Engineer Sr - 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline
• Technical mastery of engineering principles
• In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area
• Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions
• Mentors other engineers and technical professionals
• Good leadership skills
• Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent math skills
• Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software
• Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures

Nice To Haves

• Electrical Engineering Degree
• Protection and Control experience with trouble-shooting, data analysis, causal determination and equipment testing.
• Prior experience in Transmission Protection Systems, NERC PRC-005 regulations, or RTU/SCADA systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in substation protection/control-related areas such as design, outage investigations, mitigation plans, documenting outage causes, identifying customer interruption trends, auditing SERC applicable asset maintenance, and use of engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
• Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
• Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the group’s day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks and supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
• Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals
• Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary
