About The Position

The Engineer Senior Principal II – RF works within the Engineering, Science and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit, supporting the delivery of high-impact technologies for customer missions. The role is responsible for hands-on design and realization of RF passive and active circuits for phased-array antennas, larger RF systems, and other RF components. It designs and tests circuits for receivers, transmitters, local oscillators, and RF subsystems, typically from VHF through 20 GHz, and simulates circuit and system performance with analytical software. The engineer leads other engineers and technicians in RF hardware design, build, and test activities; guides testing against performance metrics; evaluates components; designs circuit boards and chip-and-wire components; and tests and documents designs for potential production. The position also provides technical solutions to difficult problems, represents the organization in technical discussions with internal organizations and external customers, mentors junior staff, and contributes to presentations and large teams. This is an on-site role requiring in-person work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production centers may require protective equipment, and access to other facilities in varying weather conditions may be required. Travel and local commuting between company campuses and other locations may also be required. A DoW Interim Secret clearance is required to start and must be maintained; applicants must be willing and eligible for possible submission for higher-level clearance or access after accepting an offer, depending on program requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field, plus 10 or more years of related experience; a higher-level degree may substitute for two years of experience per degree, and related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Full competency in core RF engineering and antenna theory, with general knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to design producibility and controlling cost, budget, and schedule.
  • Some exposure to and experience with radiating components and antennas typically used in phased-array systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in programming, data manipulation, and data visualization in MATLAB.
  • Ability to schedule and execute measurements at internal and external facilities, analyze measurements, and troubleshoot.
  • Experience with RF test equipment, including RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply RF engineering expertise and leverage knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead RF efforts and tasks and guide technical project teams toward program goals and milestones.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW Interim Secret clearance to start and continue work; willingness and eligibility for possible submission for higher-level clearance or access after an offer is accepted, depending on program requirements.
  • Degree must be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education.

Nice To Haves

  • RF electronics hardware design and RF system design experience.
  • RF hardware and microwave circuit board or PCB layout experience.
  • Experience with circuit simulation.

Responsibilities
