About The Position

The Product Safety and Reliability Engineer primarily assists with departmental responsibilities related to product safety and reliability for new and existing products. The role also supports matters involving previously manufactured and field products, product-related legal proceedings, Government and Trade Association matters, and customer support activities. It offers broad experience in product safety and reliability across JLG products. The engineer may travel, sometimes on short notice, to investigate field accidents and incidents. The role involves documenting inspections and observations, supporting litigation research and discovery, reviewing products and materials for safety and standards compliance, preparing service information, and responding to customer and end-user questions. The position requires discretion and care when handling confidential or legally sensitive information, preserving evidence, and maintaining accurate, factual documentation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
Internship experience or at least 6 months of related work experience.
Ability to travel up to 50%, sometimes on short notice.

Nice To Haves

Education or experience focused on electro-mechanical, mechatronics, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
Internship, co-op, or up to three years of related engineering experience preferred.
Ability to multitask with effective organization and communication skills.
Strong technical writing skills and the ability to document observations clearly, objectively, and accurately.

Responsibilities

Assist and facilitate field accident and incident investigations involving JLG and Jerr-Dan products, in coordination with inside and outside counsel.
Travel, sometimes on short notice, to document investigations through on-site inspections, photographs, videos, 3D scanning, and other required means.
Become a trained operator to perform functional checks of JLG and Jerr-Dan products as part of incident investigations.
Assist with research and discovery for litigation matters, including interacting with company departments and outside entities.
Initiate interaction with Engineering and other company departments on assigned product safety and reliability matters.
Prepare materials such as Field Service Bulletins and Service Information.
Participate in reviewing new products for standards compliance.
Review technical publications, marketing materials, and other assigned materials from a product safety perspective, and recommend revisions or escalation as appropriate.
Represent the company in assigned Government and Trade Association matters, such as OSHA, CSA, AEM, and ANSI.
Interact with JLG customers and end users by telephone and email regarding machine application, safe use, repairs, technical specifications, and related topics, as assigned.
Assist with other specific programs required in the course of departmental operations, as assigned by the department head.
Handle confidential and legally sensitive information with discretion, accuracy, attention to evidence preservation, documentation quality, and factual neutrality.
