About The Position

The Principal Engineer joins the Operational Engineering & Planning team to analyze, plan, coordinate, control, and improve manufacturing and test operations across programs and products, ranging from focused activities to complex, diverse efforts. The role emphasizes spacecraft manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test, and supports efficient business and program execution through industrial operations, supply chain, manufacturing, testing, and facilities capabilities. The position leads multi-discipline project efforts and independently supports design reviews, build-document development, assembly, and delivery across multiple concurrent production efforts. It applies and develops advanced technologies and engineering principles for electronics assembly and design for manufacturing, and develops process improvements to reduce risk, cost, and cycle time. The engineer also plans production programs, supports cost proposals and estimates, develops new technical knowledge, and mentors junior employees. This is an on-site position requiring regular in-person work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas may require protective equipment, and travel or local commuting between company campuses or other locations may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field, plus at least 6 years of related experience. A higher-level related degree may substitute for two years of related experience per degree level; related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education.
  • Competence at the highest levels in one or more technical fields, with an intuitive technical understanding and ability to establish design producibility requirements and cost, budget, and schedule constraints.
  • Ability to work across multiple activities and programs and support all aspects of new-business efforts across engineering disciplines.
  • Exceptional ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to provide leadership at all levels and with external customers, see the broader picture, initiate action in undefined situations, influence program outcomes and customer requirements, and negotiate new business opportunities.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be willing and eligible to be submitted for applicable clearance or access, depending on program requirements, after accepting an offer, and able to maintain it. A clearance or access with polygraph is not required for eligibility.
  • Must work on-site five days each normally scheduled week.
