•$118,095 - $200,762•Onsite

About The Position

BAE Systems Inc., Space & Mission Systems is seeking a Payload Systems Performance Analyst to support the development, evaluation, and operational assessment of advanced remote sensing and electro-optical systems. The role analyzes payload performance across radiometric, spatial, and spectral domains, including unresolved imagery products, and applies systems engineering, imaging phenomenology, sensor characterization, and analytical modeling across mission scenarios and environmental conditions. The position works with systems engineering, algorithm development, calibration, image processing, mission operations, AI&T, and hardware teams to develop integrated payload solutions and support testing, verification, hardware demonstrations, and program reviews. It is an on-site role requiring work at the primary location five days each normally scheduled week. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment; occasional production-floor work may require protective equipment, and other facilities may be accessed in varying weather conditions. A BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field and at least six years of related experience are required. A current, active Top Secret/SCI clearance is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Polygraph. A sign-on bonus of at least $25,000 is offered for external hires. The full-time salary range is $118,095–$200,762.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field, plus at least 6 years of related experience; related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • A master's degree or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience for each higher-level degree.
  • Degree must be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education.
  • Current, active Top Secret/SCI security clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Polygraph.
  • Experience with Excel and MATLAB programming.
  • Experience across multiple lifecycle phases in RF, tactical, or electro-optical system programs, from concept development and program kick-off through post-delivery support.
  • Experience analyzing payload systems, dissecting complex problems, and identifying key performance drivers.
  • Strong analytical modeling capabilities.
  • Demonstrated technical and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, schedule management, and resolving disconnects.
  • Effective communication skills, including understanding team needs, asking insightful questions, and clearly communicating proposed solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as Python, C, C++, IDL, STK, and DOORS.
  • Eight years of experience with EO and sensing payloads and mission architecture for the intelligence community.

Responsibilities

  • Perform end-to-end performance analysis for electro-optical payloads, including multispectral visible and infrared remote sensing systems.
  • Assess radiometric, spatial, and spectral performance, including radiometric calibration, signal-to-noise ratio, modulation transfer function and point spread function characterization, and spectral response.
  • Simulate and analyze unresolved and partially resolved imagery to derive system performance metrics, target characterization, and mission-relevant observables.
  • Develop and execute modeling and simulation approaches for payload and sensor performance predictions and requirements verification.
  • Support requirements development, performance budgeting, and payload verification and validation activities.
  • Evaluate the effects of atmosphere, illumination geometry, platform motion, and environmental conditions on sensor performance.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, algorithm development, calibration, image processing, and mission operations teams on integrated payload solutions.
  • Work with AI&T engineers on test configurations, verification approaches, and payload verification analysis and test plans.
  • Work with hardware engineers on system designs and analysis of hardware demonstrations.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to peers, management, and/or customers as required.
  • Support program gates, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and payload sell-off.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule and effective working relationships across the department, business units, capabilities units, and company.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
