About The Position

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is currently seeking an Engineer, or Engineer Associate depending on the skills, education and experience qualifications of the successful candidate. This position will be required to handle the day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area in the Columbus Headquarters (3610 Gentian Blvd Columbus, GA 31909). Responsibilities include service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground residential, new business and other construction projects. Candidate must provide superior customer service and be able to prepare and schedule the construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. Candidate will write and execute switching orders to effectively maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements. Other duties will include handling customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.) and assisting with Distribution compliance and asset management programs. Candidate will also participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and must be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School), Engineering Technology, or Math or Science.
  • Professional Engineer's License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor's degree.
  • Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering software systems.
  • Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems.
  • Knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good Attitude and Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  • Working knowledge of NESC.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated.
  • No revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
  • No convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus.
  • Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus.
  • Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ARMS, JETS/JETS Scheduling, Designer/GIS, CSS, Socket, DistView, TCMS Web, NJUNS, EDEN, OUA, and OFS preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual and the Financial and Business goals preferred.
