About The Position

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is seeking an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Representative. This position will handle day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area, including service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for various projects. The role requires providing superior customer service, preparing and scheduling construction to meet service dates, and writing/executing switching orders for system reliability. The candidate will also process documentation for compliance, handle customer inquiries, assist with distribution compliance and asset management, and participate in an on-call trouble supervision rotation, requiring availability after business hours for restoration efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School), Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, or Bachelor's Degree in Math or Science for Engineer/Engineering Associate roles.
  • Experience in Utility industry or related field for Engineering Representative role.
  • Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired.
  • Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems a plus.
  • General engineering and/or construction principles a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners and line crew personnel.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good Attitude and Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated.
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
  • Must have no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 year degree from Accredited School a plus.
  • Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus.
  • Distribution and/or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area.
  • Perform service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground residential, new business, and other construction projects.
  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates.
  • Write and execute switching orders to effectively maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability.
  • Process all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements.
  • Handle customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.).
  • Assist with Distribution compliance and asset management programs.
  • Participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.
