About The Position

This position is accountable for assessing the performance of the department’s pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, preservation policies, and procedures utilizing the department’s pavement management system. This position is responsible for planning and supervising in-house research studies related to pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation. In addition, this position is accountable for providing pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, preservation strategy support to districts and bureaus for unique pavement performance problems. This position is responsible for developing and implementing statewide policies, procedures, and specifications to ensure that Illinois employs cost-effective, efficient state-of-the-art pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation technologies.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Six years of experience in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and administers the activities of the Pavement Management Unit.
  • Oversees the performance history assessment of departmental pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation strategies using the pavement management system.
  • Plans and supervises in-house research studies related to pavement design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation procedures.
  • Coordinates responses to district and central bureau requests for assistance with unique pavement design and performance problems.
  • Incorporates cost-effective changes to departmental policies resulting from positive research findings in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the successful deployment and usage of research policies, practices, and specifications statewide.
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
