About The Position

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is seeking an Engineer VI, I&C for a direct hire position. This role involves performing a variety of engineering and design activities for power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects. The Engineer VI, I&C must possess extensive experience with power plant system instrumentation and control strategies, technical knowledge of legacy equipment, and a thorough understanding of digital control systems design based on the latest digital platforms. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and preparing modifications, independently evaluating, selecting, and using standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for technical projects. Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry and a working knowledge of applicable NRC regulations are required. Typical activities encompass developing specifications and/or modification packages, defining I&C design scope, developing design criteria documents, identifying and selecting control valves and instruments, developing control system functionality, developing control system architectures, and defining I/O device interfaces. The position also entails managing budget, scope, schedule, and quality for designated work assignments with minimal guidance and technical oversight. It requires the ability to devise new approaches to technical problems, a broad knowledge of industry precedents, and effective interfacing and coordination with multiple design disciplines and customer representatives. The Engineer VI, I&C will collaborate on project teams to evaluate conditions and propose modifications to enhance plant performance, safety, and reliability. Reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data prepared by other engineers, as well as managing project teams and providing mentoring to entry-level and junior engineers, are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with power plant system instrumentation and control strategies
  • Technical knowledge of legacy equipment
  • Thorough understanding of digital control systems design that are based on the latest digital platforms
  • Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry
  • Working knowledge of applicable NRC regulations
  • BS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer or process/controls engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program that includes course work in analog and digital control systems
  • 18 years (minimum) of experience with at least 8 of those years with nuclear power, preferably with digital/analog controls systems
  • Experience with operating plant procedures, processes and nuclear plant licensing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening
  • Ability to maintain unescorted nuclear plant access
  • Overtime work is required at times
  • Travel is required to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work
  • Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas

Nice To Haves

  • MS (in one of the degrees noted above in Education Required section) from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Experience in the nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects
  • Professional Engineering registration (PE)
