This role involves designing, developing, and testing nuclear equipment and systems. It includes conducting research on new materials for nuclear reactors, studying radiation detection and control, and analyzing the nuclear fuel cycle for economical material use and safe waste disposal. Other research areas include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses, and performance metrics. The position also involves recommending technology options for system, process, facility, or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency, or costs. Specifically, this position is for the shielding and structures group in Department E35, supporting future submarine designs and the growth of the shielding group. Candidates will be responsible for conducting shielding analyses, developing shield designs and construction methods, and working on cost and span reduction efforts. Regular communication and collaboration with NNL and Electric Boat are required.
