ENGINEER MODEL-BASED 4

Huntington Ingalls•Newport News, VA
•$123,000 - $163,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Model-Based Engineer will support Newport News Shipbuilding’s E92 Model Based Engineering team and its MBe Innovation Cell (iCELL), helping develop, test, and implement model-based engineering and design solutions for complex shipbuilding projects. The position supports the lifecycle management process and requires understanding current engineering processes and how ships are designed, planned, constructed, and maintained. Work includes research and development projects, systems engineering, process and tool solution development, industry standards, project management, and strategy development. The engineer will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of leadership. The position supports the SSN(X) submarine design and FORD Class Carrier programs. It focuses on using a model-based environment to develop a framework for assessing digital-twin value and analysis processes, including defining where and to what level digital twins should be used and how their maturity states should be managed. The role also involves developing requirements, processes, tools, and data architecture for a Model Based Enterprise; evaluating existing and proposed system capabilities; developing technical, structural, and organizational specifications; and guiding stakeholders in designing functional, secure digital solutions. The engineer develops long-range objectives and strategic plans for digital engineering innovation, communicates documented data and results, presents business case analyses to executive leadership, and supports digital transformation through research, new technical approaches, and management of functionality testing. Basic knowledge of emerging technology enablers and willingness to learn are expected, including model-based analysis and simulation, requirements management, IoT, software-driven systems, and sensor feedback used to validate physical-to-virtual relationships in digital twins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum experience: 9 years with a bachelor’s degree in science, 7 years with a master’s degree, or 4 years with a Ph.D.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • Basic knowledge of emerging technology enablers, with willingness to learn model-based analysis and simulation, requirements management, IoT, software-driven systems, and sensor feedback concepts.
