About The Position

Newport News Shipbuilding is hiring an Engineer 4 to serve in the role of lead engineer for the R&D Advanced Technology and Innovation Pipeline (ATIP) Program funded via the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. This position will be within the Technology Development group, with a focus on evaluating, developing, and managing high risk, high reward projects in this portfolio. Qualified candidates will possess a background in nuclear engineering and/or other shipbuilding experience. Exceptional leadership ability, judgment, and experience is necessary to succeed in this role.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

Experience or knowledge pertaining to Nuclear engineering is desired, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

Support R&D programs as a subject matter expert in the projects under the ATIP portfolio
Integrate and coordinate efforts between multiple organizations within the Navy, NNL, HII, industry and other participating activities.
Engage in frequent communication with NNL technical experts and program managers.
Serve as program manager for the ATIP portfolio.
Guide R&D planning activities within and external to the Technology Development group.
Coordinate with program managers and project leads across HII improve efficiency and knowledge sharing.
Expand the ATIP project portfolio as a means to increase shipyard efficiencies and capacity.
