About The Position

This position supports the Nuclear Construction Engineering department E86 for the Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) and Ford Class Carrier (CVN) projects. The role involves researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. The engineer will apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. The engineer will also provide technical oversight for the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and operation of temporary mechanical systems and hydrostatic test equipment.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

Mechanical piping system experience, specifically in design, field support, and testing of mechanical piping systems.
Project management experience.
Working knowledge of ASME standards.
Working knowledge of engineering software (FEA/CFD).

Responsibilities

Resolving fabrication, installation, and operation problems with mechanical systems.
Developing hydrostatic test equipment and flush gear.
Evaluating pressure/temperature/flow capabilities of mechanical piping equipment.
Issuing calculations that support mechanical component or system design.
Managing small engineering projects.
Providing technical oversight for design, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and operation of temporary mechanical systems and hydrostatic test equipment.
