  • Experience with photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), microgrids, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
  • Experience with building electrification, central plant electrical infrastructure, and integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation controls.
  • Experience reviewing electrical engineering designs, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) design, approval, and construction processes.
  • Experience utilizing Bluebeam Revu and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools and processes.
  • Experience and/or certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) or Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an electrical engineering subject matter expert, providing technical guidance, engineering evaluations, and recommendations to Project Managers and the Sustainability Strike Team across Districtwide initiatives.
  • Assess existing electrical infrastructure, equipment, and associated building systems to evaluate conditions, performance, capacity, deficiencies, and opportunities for upgrades or improvements.
  • Develop existing-conditions assessment reports documenting findings, deficiencies, infrastructure limitations, recommended upgrades, technical alternatives, and prioritization considerations.
  • Perform and review electrical infrastructure assessments, load studies, capacity evaluations, feasibility studies, and technical analyses supporting project scoping, design, and implementation.
  • Evaluate the feasibility and compatibility of proposed upgrades with existing electrical and associated building systems, coordinating with other engineering disciplines and utilities to identify integration needs and constraints.
  • Coordinate with District personnel, Campus Administration, CPTs, PMO, consultants, and utility providers regarding service capacity, infrastructure requirements, utility upgrades, and technical constraints.
  • Develop technical Scopes of Work (SOWs), or provide electrical engineering input to project SOWs, including requirements, specifications, deliverables, and implementation approaches for Project Managers.
  • Review and validate technical SOWs prepared by consultants and other stakeholders for alignment with District standards, project objectives, existing conditions, and engineering requirements.
  • Support project establishment and White Paper development by validating engineering assumptions, technical requirements, feasibility findings, alternatives, and proposed approaches in accordance with BuildLACCD PMO Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide electrical engineering input to procurement documents, technical SOWs, performance requirements, and evaluation criteria for design and construction services.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert on evaluation panels for design professionals, contractors, and other technical service providers; assess qualifications, proposals, and technical approaches under District procurement procedures and provide recommendations.
  • Provide technical expertise for PV, BESS, microgrids, EV charging, building electrification, central plant decarbonization, lighting, smart controls, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Review engineering studies, design documents, technical specifications, submittals, RFIs, requests for clarification, and change order proposals; provide technical recommendations to Project Managers and appropriate decision-makers.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design and construction teams to identify engineering risks, resolve technical issues, and support constructability and systems integration.
  • Perform electrical engineering analyses and prepare technical reports supporting District design guidelines and applicable project requirements.
  • Support field visits, design and construction meetings, commissioning, and closeout activities as required for technical verification and issue resolution.
  • Apply applicable California energy and electrical codes, Title 24, ASHRAE guidance, District standards, and sustainability principles to technical reviews and recommendations.
  • Perform other bond-eligible electrical engineering support duties as directed by the Sustainability Strike Team Lead.
