About The Position

ND Defense is seeking Engineering Interns in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering to support manufacturing operations and engineering projects. This internship provides hands-on experience in a defense manufacturing environment, including electrical assembly, harness and cable fabrication, work instruction development, process documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with production and quality teams.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Completed at least two years of coursework in the applicable engineering discipline
  • Basic understanding of electrical assembly processes, wiring methods, and soldering techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR §120.62)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to CAD or electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards for cable and wire harness assemblies
  • Coursework or project experience with PLCs, control systems, or circuit design
  • Experience with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, hipot testers)
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electrical assembly operations, including wire harness fabrication, cable routing, connector termination, and component installation
  • Support the programming, setup, and documentation of automated and semi-automated assembly equipment under the direction of senior engineers
  • Draft and revise manufacturing work instructions, job travelers, and standard operating procedures for assembly processes
  • Create and update wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layout drawings, and interconnect documents
  • Support the development and documentation of manufacturing processes, tooling, and test fixtures
  • Conduct time studies, measurements, and data collection to support process improvement initiatives
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Assist with electrical testing, continuity checks, and quality verification of completed assemblies
  • Support engineering change notice (ECN) processing and drawing revision control
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities as needed
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams on active projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
