About The Position

The overall function of this position is to assist the resident project engineer in the planning, directing, and coordination of all activities for a construction unit. This position is located in the District 08, Unit 248 in Leesville, Louisiana, of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to an Engineer 6, Project Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Must be able to proficiently use computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to proficiently use computer, scanner, and copier.
  • List all work experience on the application.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the resident project engineer in the planning, directing, and coordination of all activities for a construction unit.
  • Interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
  • Participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate.
  • Attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary.
  • Have knowledge of current LaDOTD specifications, design guidelines, and design standards.
  • Monitor erosion control plans, and hazardous waste removal.
  • Develops and writes change orders to solve complex problems such as design errors, construction problems, and environmental concerns.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
