Requirements

Graduate of a college or university with an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering.
Two years of engineering experience as an Engineer-In-Training.
Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
Certification as an Engineer-In-Training recognized by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Nice To Haves

Basic hydrology and hydraulics principles, including stormwater and drainage design
Using drainage design and modeling software such as OpenRoads Designer (ORD), HY-8, or HEC-RAS
Reviewing engineering plans, calculations, and reports for accuracy and compliance
Quality assurance and quality control processes in an engineering setting
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

Assist senior engineers with QA/QC reviews of drainage and stormwater designs, learning to identify errors and ensure compliance with KYTC standards.
Participate in team discussions and project meetings to observe how drainage design integrates with roadway, environmental and safety considerations.
Review project documentation and calculations under guidance, develop an understanding of proper documentation, modeling assumptions and regulatory requirements.
Gain hands-on experience reviewing and interpreting ORD drainage models and outputs, building proficiency in the software and understanding its role in design validation.
Support updates to branch checklists, procedures, and standard practices while gaining hands-on experience with KYTC’s quality and safety standards.
