About The Position

The Engineer in Charge (EIC) serves as the technical point person at the customer site and acts as a technical advisor to Field Service Engineers (FSEs). This role involves coordinating, developing, and maintaining the technical skill levels of both the EIC and assigned FSEs. The EIC is the direct communication link to corporate for spare parts, technical skill levels, and customer issues. A primary responsibility is meeting contractually specified availability/MTBI requirements and minimizing service downtime at the site. The EIC aims to improve equipment availability, reliability, and customer satisfaction by proactively identifying and resolving daily issues to prevent downtime. This includes responsibility for error recovery, equipment repairs, and installation of assigned CIP modifications. The EIC may also provide technical and information support to all sites as needed. Depending on the assignment, the EIC might report to a senior EIC or function as a Floater EIC. The role requires participation in Service/Project Meetings for their assigned site to provide updates.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to speak with clarity and interface effectively with customers and peers.
  • Excellent systematic troubleshooting skills, judgment, and problem solving skills to resolve diverse projects with ability to handle problems independently and implement corrective action.
  • Broad-based customer focus and commitment to resolve problems and make decisions based upon the priority of the problem in relation to business needs.
  • Must be available to work On-call needed and be available for specific emergency call-in work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of basic computer language and commands.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS powerpoint.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must follow safety guidelines established for work area and wear protective clothing when exposed to hazardous materials.
  • Conform at all times to customer’s safety and cleanliness policies to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Will need to follow and understand posted work rules and procedures.
  • All equipment on Site.

Nice To Haves

  • AS degree, technical certificate, or equivalent with minimum of 8 years related work experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate and resolve complex equipment and/or system malfunctions and take corrective action. Analyze, evaluate, and plan methods of approach and organize means to achieve the solution of complex technical problems.
  • Act as a technical leader to provide mentoring and/or training to FSE’s. May require assistance with TA group.
  • Lead or initiate and drive Continuous Improvement Project (CIP) programs and Plan of Action Teams.
  • Provide analysis of data and drive process and product improvements.
  • Create and write QA policies and procedures.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to site FSE’s.
  • Generate reports and facilitate presentations of equipment downtime, PM, calibration, and other maintenance activities.
  • Create and present reports, project plans, and other documentation as required.
  • Participate in ongoing staff meetings and activities.
  • Represent Company in dealings with customer to achieve customer satisfaction with equipment.
  • Make presentations to customers in operational status project meetings.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of repair, PM, and downtime trends.
