About The Position

The Test Engineer III joins Omnicell’s Verification & Validation team and contributes to the safety, performance, reliability, and quality of complex medical automation systems. The role owns verification strategies for assigned subsystems and major features, leads hands-on system and integration testing, investigates hardware and system issues, and works across engineering disciplines to translate requirements and product risks into effective test methods and evidence. The position develops and improves test methods, fixtures, and laboratory setups for hardware and integrated systems, and uses statistical analysis and structured root-cause methods to derive engineering insight from test results. It produces traceable verification documentation and communicates technical progress and risks to cross-functional stakeholders. The engineer also contributes to design reviews, risk-management activities, mentoring, and practical improvements to V&V processes and test automation. The role is primarily office- and laboratory-based in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, with hands-on work using test equipment, instrumentation, hardware assemblies, fixtures, software tools, and medical automation systems. Limited travel may be required for cross-site collaboration or field support. A drug screen is required. Base compensation is $82,338 to $130,000, with actual compensation depending on factors including location, education, experience, and skillset. Omnicell offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible US employees and dependents.

  • Experience designing, building, or modifying test fixtures and test setups for complex hardware.
  • Experience applying statistical methods to engineering test data and conducting structured root-cause analysis for hardware or system failures.
  • Strong technical documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Basic familiarity with AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT to support productivity, analysis, and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on mechatronics experience with motors, motor drives, pneumatics, solenoids, sensors, actuators, wiring, power supplies, embedded controls, or microcontroller-based systems.
  • Experience designing test fixtures, adapters, brackets, or prototype hardware using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software, including basic GD&T and tolerance considerations.
  • Experience developing or modifying test automation and data-acquisition solutions using LabVIEW, Python, Arduino/microcontrollers, PLCs, or comparable tools; familiarity with DAQ systems and instrument control.
  • Experience with reliability methods such as life or accelerated testing and statistical tools or techniques such as DOE, capability analysis, regression, Weibull analysis, Minitab, or JMP.
  • Medical-device or regulated-industry experience and familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 61010, IEC 62304, FMEA, or FTA.
  • Training, certification, or demonstrated experience using generative AI tools to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead risk-based verification and validation strategies for assigned subsystems and major features, translating requirements and product risks into verification approaches and audit-ready evidence.
  • Partner with R&D, Quality, Product, Manufacturing, and Automation teams to establish appropriate verification coverage.
  • Develop and improve hands-on test capabilities, including test methods, fixtures, and laboratory setups for hardware and integrated systems.
  • Lead complex system and integration testing, including performance, stress, robustness, and safety-critical verification; support characterization, life-cycle, and failure-focused reliability testing as appropriate.
  • Apply statistical methods to test data to identify trends, variation, degradation, failure patterns, and product risk.
  • Lead structured failure investigations, conduct root-cause analysis of hardware and system issues, and drive corrective actions and retest strategies.
  • Create traceable V&V evidence, including test plans, protocols, reports, and traceability matrices.
  • Communicate progress, technical risks, failures, and conclusions to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Represent V&V in design reviews and risk-management activities and advocate for stronger design-for-testability.
  • Mentor Test Engineers I/II and Test Technicians and strengthen hands-on problem-solving capabilities across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to expand test coverage, reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and create standardized, reusable test capabilities.
  • Build product, system architecture, requirements, failure-mode, and V&V environment knowledge, with focus on hardware, reliability risks, and mechatronic subsystems.
  • Contribute to an active verification or reliability test effort through hands-on testing, statistical analysis, and structured root-cause investigation of at least one complex issue.
  • Begin owning a defined subsystem or test capability and identify a practical improvement to fixture design, instrumentation, data collection, automation, or reliability coverage.
