About The Position

This position is in the Triad Asset Design Group, responsible for designing and overseeing the design of Substation Optimization Projects and Large Customer Work. The role requires field visits to review and discuss scope of work with engineering firms and contractor managers, and collaboration with various teams including Off-Site Engineering Firms, Contractor Managers, Project Managers, Project Controls, Asset Management Team, Zone Engineering, R&I Engineers, and Line workers. The position also supports storm response in the Triad Area and may require travel to other Duke Energy locations. The Engineer III is an advanced level role focused on solving complex engineering problems with limited supervision, developing advanced skills, and working with greater independence. The Senior Engineer manages work in their specialization with minimal supervision, develops advanced skills, works independently, and identifies and resolves problems. Depending on qualifications, the position may be filled at either the Engineer III or Senior Engineer level.

Requirements

  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience (for Engineer III)
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE (for Senior Engineer)
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer (for Senior Engineer)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decisions that may affect the work of the team.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies.
  • Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
