Engineer III, IV, V - Transmission & Substation Services - Fairmont Corporate Center
About The Position
This role involves maintaining a safe workplace by understanding potential hazards, industry regulations, and company practices. The engineer will commission new transmission substation equipment, develop check-out guides, review test results and isolation plans, and create energization plans to minimize system risk. They will also provide limited field design services for minor design problems during capital projects and offer onsite technical support to regional substation services employees during maintenance activities. The position requires applying engineering skills and operational knowledge to identify and resolve technical problems in the field during installation, testing, and throughout the equipment's design life, including challenging design approaches when necessary. Additionally, the engineer will assist in developing or modifying maintenance practices to adapt to changing technology, new equipment, improved testing methods, and regulatory changes. They will audit maintenance paperwork and test results for technical adequacy and regulatory completeness. The role includes providing emergency technical support after equipment failures to aid customer restoration and system reinforcement, which may involve developing field modifications and commissioning mobile substations. Support for the emergency plan through assigned storm duties and hazard response is also required. The ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams, including regional and plant personnel, other departments, and outside vendors, is essential. Effective communication across multi-disciplined teams such as electrical contractors, customers, regional switchmen/technicians, transmission operations, design engineering, planning/protection, and project management is crucial for successful and timely project completion.
