About The Position

GCI's Engineer III, Engineering & Architecture will work cross-functionally as required to develop, deploy, and maintain the products and services offered by the company. Interact with internal groups and external customers to ensure our products and services are performing as designed. Work within capital and operations budgets to ensure projects remain on scope and within budget. Follow company policy and department guidelines to support and successfully complete development and lifecycle maintenance of network plans, policies, and procedures following engineering/architecture design principles. At a senior engineer level, will be expected to perform highly complex and diverse design, plans, analysis, and implementation under deadlines and operating constraints. Receives clear direction on assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; must be able to make independent decisions and provide technical direction and resolution. Supervisory assistance provided on unusual problems. Reviews and provides final engineering design specifications and service requirements. Ability to coordinate, direct, assist, provide technical direction, and mentor junior engineers and supporting technicians.

Requirements

  • Proficient computer skills and MS Office knowledge (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) to complete job duties effectively, such as using the company intranet and to accurately retrieve and input information into database or equivalent.
  • High-level knowledge of engineering concepts, design principles, and math calculations.
  • Demonstrated success in design, implementation, editing and support.
  • Practical experience with configuration, routing, switches, within a Network Telecommunications environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, professionally and support junior engineers.
  • Highly intuitive analytic, strategic, interpersonal critical/creativity thinking skills are necessary.

  • Excellent capability in using Microsoft Office tools; Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, etc.
  • Strong time management and ability to lean to manage complex projects on time and within budget.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in relevant field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and successfully complete Defensive Driving course.
  • Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.
  • Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.
  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional level Certifications: Cisco CCNA, MEF CECP, SCTE Dep, (SCTE DEP (DOCSIS Engineering Professional) Certified SOA Architect, CITA, EACOE.
  • Telecommunications experience.
  • Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for forecasting demand on the GCI network (satellite, microwave, core, TERRA, HFC, Mobility).
  • Provides forecasts bi-annually for input into the LRP (long range plan).
  • Provides ad-hoc capacity checks as requested from other GCI departments.
  • Coordinates with other departments to optimize costs by consolidating or “right sizing” leased capacity as necessary.
  • Accountable for automating and optimizing processes, workflows, and tools.
