About The Position

This position serves as a project engineer for various professional engineering sewer projects and as the primary contact for the water and sewer linear (pipelines) asset management program. The role involves managing sewer capital improvement projects of smaller scope and budget, coordinating and executing tasks related to the water and sewer linear asset management program, and managing the work of consultants, contractors, and others. The position also assists in the development and implementation of asset management standards and program policies, reviews consultant proposals, maintains records, prepares reports, and implements Bureau asset management strategies. It requires recommending failure criteria, coordinating work between various entities, assisting with IT coordination, maintaining and overseeing the development of asset management models, and performing design work including drafting, reviewing plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, and preparing estimates and technical studies. The role also manages the design, review, and approval of small scope sewer pipeline capital improvement projects, coordinates in-house staff and consultants, manages project schedules, utilizes GIS and CAD software, and performs field inspections. Additionally, the position investigates and responds to public engineering-related complaints and may lead or assist less experienced personnel.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Two years' field or office engineering experience.
  • Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America, plus two years' field or office engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various work in the design of engineering projects, including drafting and reviewing plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, and preparing construction estimates and technical studies.
  • Manages the design, review, and approval of small scope and budget sewer pipeline capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinates the work of in-house staff and consultants with regard to sewer capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinates project schedules and deadlines.
  • Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer-aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans and projects.
  • Performs periodic field inspections and/or site visits of construction projects or to verify existing conditions.
  • Investigates and responds to engineering-related complaints from the public.
  • Leads and assists less experienced and subordinate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
