About The Position

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is seeking an Engineer II, I&C for a direct hire position located in either their Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC engineering office. This is an in-office position and not remote. The successful candidate will perform a variety of engineering and design activities for power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff. This role requires past experience with the evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria. The individual will assist with calculations, modifications, and designs, possessing technical knowledge in the electrical discipline. They will work on project teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions, propose modifications, and develop design changes to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.

Requirements

  • BS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer or process/controls engineering from an accredited engineering program that includes coursework in analog and digital control systems.
  • 6 years (minimum) of experience with at least 2 of those years with nuclear power.
  • Knowledge of digital/analog controls systems is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is required.
  • Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required.
  • Overtime work is required at times.
  • Travel is required to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) registration or Professional Engineering registration (PE) are desirable.
  • MS (in one of the degrees noted above in Education Required section) from an accredited engineering program is desirable.
  • Experience in the commercial nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff.
  • Perform calculations, modifications, and designs.
  • Assist with evaluating conditions, proposing modifications, and developing design changes which will improve plant performance, safety and reliability.
  • Understand and comply with company policies, procedures and processes.
  • Perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas.
