About The Position

RK&K is hiring a Transportation Engineer for its team in Fairfax, Virginia. The Highway/Roadway Engineer will design and analyze transportation facilities, including new roadways, widenings, resurfacings, and multimodal improvements. The position involves preparing roadway design documents and estimates, supporting specifications and design documentation, and collaborating with other disciplines to develop solutions to design challenges. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in roadway design.
• Working knowledge of basic roadway design principles.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Engineering Intern (E.I.) license in Virginia, or ability to obtain one within six months.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with roadway widening or new alignment design.
• Experience with innovative intersection design.
• Experience with sidewalk or shared-use path design.
• Previous internship experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze horizontal and vertical alignments.
• Prepare plan, profile, cross section, and detail sheets.
• Design temporary traffic control plans.
• Calculate quantities and prepare construction cost estimates.
• Support preparation of design documentation.
• Support preparation of specifications packages.
• Work with other disciplines on creative solutions to design challenges.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
