About The Position

Canon Virginia is seeking an energetic and focused Electrical Engineer to join their corporate family as they evolve into the Regional Technical Headquarters for the Americas. This role supports new product development activities in a Product Development / R&D environment by researching and developing new materials, components/assemblies, methods, and/or processes utilizing engineering principles to meet User and Stakeholder Requirements while adhering to project objectives for quality, cost and delivery.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 2-5 years’ experience in research and development, medical or related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to management within and outside of Canon Virginia.
  • Fluent in an electronic CAD/CAM systems (Altium) including simulation (Ex: LT SPICE), schematic capture and layout.
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems including hardware and software development tools and standard interface protocols.
  • Working knowledge of Python, C, C++ programming languages in MS Windows and Linux environments. Requires ability to debug and trace common code problems.
  • Ability to solder for assembly and rework of prototype circuit boards.
  • Requires analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Test engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with STM32 a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots electrical systems using various test equipment (o-scope, multimeter, etc.) to determine root cause, or to ensure proper function. Researches various issues to determine appropriate fixes.
  • Execute testing on hardware to validate hardware and software functionality. Owns full cycle testing including: write test plans, conduct test processes, generate test reports and share findings with team, maintain a record of improvements/changes. Writes technical reports to document investigation procedures and results.
  • Analyzes test data and draws conclusions from findings to determine efficiency/reliability of prototypes. Utilizing data in deciding board layout, repairs, etc.
  • Designs & develop test hardware & fixturing, including development kits, OTS and custom printed circuit boards (PCB’s) including component selection.
  • Conducts design reviews. Makes any necessary design changes and tests updates to ensure proper functionality. Performs validation testing on all PCBs to determine functionality prior to unit assembly.
  • Generates new concepts/designs and generates proof of concept.
  • Reviews content of technical reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Trains less experienced Engineers on department processes or systems.
