About The Position

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is seeking qualified candidates for an open Engineer II - Electric Transmission Engineering position within the Engineering Operations team. This role provides professional Transmission Engineering design and support for PSE’s Transmission facilities and assets, covering planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis. The engineer will be responsible for major complex transmission projects, ensuring they meet safety, cost, schedule, quality, and operational objectives. Key duties include reviewing engineering designs, studies, specifications, construction packages, and technical documentation for compliance with PSE standards and industry requirements. The position involves interpreting and applying advanced Transmission principles to analyze and resolve complex transmission system challenges, including new transmission lines, system upgrades, and maintenance. Additionally, the role supports the development of PSE’s engineering workforce through knowledge sharing and assists in emergency response operations when needed. The job upholds safety compliance standards and promotes a culture of total safety, conducting business honestly, ethically, and in accordance with the Code of Conduct and regulatory obligations. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment drug screening.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field. A PE license may qualify in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after three (3) or more years practice as a degreed engineer).
  • Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects.
  • Familiar with codes and equipment utilized in the design and operation of utility systems.
  • Experience with coordinating external consultants in the execution of a project.
  • Possession of EIT certificate and ability to acquire PE license.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
  • General uses of PLS-CADD software for overhead electric transmission design and structural analysis
  • General knowledge of NESC code and other applicable industry code requirements for transmission line design

Responsibilities

  • Works on Transmission projects that are often composed of many interrelated elements.
  • Interprets requirements and application of company and industry standards, guidelines, and methods.
  • Applies engineering principles, practices, theories for Transmission Designs.
  • Creates and reviews cost estimates, and provides economic analysis for project alternatives.
  • Plans and develops project budgets with appropriate documentation.
  • Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiates corrective action.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • May coordinate the work of engineering assistants, technicians, or others who assist in specific assignments (including contractors/consultants).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
