About The Position

The Engineer I is an engineering role focused on contributing to software development while learning under close guidance from senior team members. This role will implement well-defined features and tasks, build foundational engineering skills, and develop proficiency in the team's technology stack. The Engineer I role is primarily focused on writing code while learning the practices, patterns, and tools required for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience through bootcamp, self-study, or demonstrated projects, required
  • 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience (including internships, co-ops, or entry-level roles)
  • Understanding of fundamental computer science concepts (data structures, algorithms, basic design patterns)
  • knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Basic programming skills in at least one language relevant to the team's stack (e.g. C#/.NET, Python, JavaScript/React)
  • Understanding of fundamental software development concepts (data structures, algorithms, basic design patterns)
  • Ability to learn new technologies and frameworks with guidance
  • Basic understanding of version control (Git) and code review processes
  • Familiarity with web development, databases, or cloud platform concepts
  • Strong communication skills and ability to ask effective questions
  • Collaborative mindset with eagerness to learn from others
  • Self-motivated with desire to grow as an engineer
  • Problem-solving aptitude and logical thinking skills
  • Solid critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Implement well-defined features, bug fixes, and tasks with guidance from senior engineers
  • Write code following team standards, patterns, and examples provided by mentors
  • Fix bugs and make small improvements to existing code with direction
  • Learn the codebase, tools, and development workflows through hands-on work
  • Write basic unit tests for code with guidance and examples
  • Participate in code reviews to learn from feedback and observe how others write code
  • Practice debugging techniques with support from senior engineers
  • Follow version control workflows (Git, pull requests, branching) with guidance
  • Ask questions and seek help proactively when facing unfamiliar problems
  • Build understanding of how different system components work together
  • Complete assigned learning resources and technical training
  • Pair program with senior engineers to learn techniques and best practices
  • Communicate progress, blockers, and questions clearly and promptly
  • Participate in team ceremonies (standups, planning, retrospectives)
  • Ask for clarification when requirements or technical approaches are unclear
  • Respond to code review feedback and learn from suggestions
  • Help document things you learn that would help future new engineers
  • Work closely with assigned mentor or senior engineer
  • Contribute to positive team culture through collaboration and professionalism
  • May work on special projects or other duties as assigned
  • Research and develop necessary skills to support organizational objectives
