About The Position

The Engineer (Instrument and Control) position supports customer and supplier communication, provides technical assistance to station staff, and contributes to the safe and reliable operation of Cooper Nuclear Station. An Engineer (Instrument & Control) performs trending, evaluation, and application of standard engineering techniques while supporting equipment reliability, system performance, and plant modifications. Typical assignments involve engineering analyses, problem‑solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of station systems. The position works collaboratively with field employees, technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders. This position may be assigned responsibilities within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO). Continued employment requires the ability to report to the station within 45 minutes of notification when activated. Note: Engineer I–V is a progression governed by the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path and is subject to manager approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, or a Professional Engineering License.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to perform basic cost estimating and scheduling.
  • Technical writing and applied mathematics skills.
  • Ability to report to the station within 45 minutes of notification when activated (for ERO responsibilities).

Responsibilities

  • Review operational data, internal investigation outcomes, and industry operating experience to identify issues related to I&C systems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Research and evaluate new instrumentation, controls, and digital technologies.
  • Utilize engineering drawings, technical software, design codes and standards, and applicable regulatory requirements in support of engineering tasks.
  • Develop or assist in developing I&C design requirements, engineering calculations, drawings, bills of material, installation specifications, and acceptance test criteria.
  • Prepare Engineering Changes (ECs) to support plant modifications and maintain configuration control.
  • Perform trending and analysis of I&C system and component performance to support equipment reliability and maintenance planning.
  • Support or conduct Cyber Security digital evaluations and assessments for I&C digital assets to maintain compliance with the Cyber Security Rule.
  • Collaborate effectively with personnel at all levels, demonstrating strong teamwork, communication, and professional conduct.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Accountable for other duties as assigned.
