Engineer I or II - DCC Grid

Duke Energy•Garner, NC
•Hybrid

About The Position

The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Engineers at this level solve problems in their engineering specialty with close supervision, develop their skills and independence, and apply fundamental concepts and procedures. The Engineer II position is the intermediate level. Engineers at this level solve complex problems with general supervision, develop advanced skills and independence, and apply fundamental concepts and procedures to fairly complex and varied work. This position provides engineering support to multiple roles in the Distribution Control Center (DCC), including DCC Engineers, Operators, and Grid Techs, and supports communications with internal departments and external customers. It requires knowledge of electrical principles, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to serving communities. After training, the engineer independently analyzes complex system-operation plans, typically involving voltage levels of 34.5 kV and below. The role offers potential progression promotions and opportunities to contribute to functional teams and projects affecting Transmission and Distribution systems. The position is hybrid after the onboarding period. Employees must live within a reasonable commute—no more than 50 miles one way—from their designated Duke Energy facility and are expected to report there as directed, averaging three full workdays per regular workweek. Some business units may require visits to field sites or plants. Travel is 5–15%. After successful completion of training, the engineer must be available for a compensated on-call rotation. Relocation assistance is not provided.
